Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
