Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
