Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was āin good spiritsā during their recent conversation.
āThatās what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,ā Glenn commented. āHis wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.ā
Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.
āDonāt know just yet,ā the coach said. āHowever, I can share, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, thatās what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and heās talking that way.ā
New York police shared security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims according to reports.
The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts āa tonā since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.
āWhat immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,ā Glenn said. āI thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
āA certain process is underway, Iāll keep private, but Iām happy at the fact that heās going to come out of this thing really, really well.ā
Boyd was inactive during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.
Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.
āHe remains involved with our activities,ā Glenn said. āI mean, he comes to the games all the time. Heās fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, heās done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.ā
Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houstonās squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
