The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miamiâs Little Havana neighborhood.
âThe swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,â declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
âUnless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,â the mayor added. âLet this swine have a prosperous future without fear.â
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling âsix sevenâ â originating from a musical verse â often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared â6-7â its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary âfar from charcoal and roasting pansâ, according to the eventâs official press release.
âThe annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,â said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
âIt captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.â
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
