The Reform UK leader Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling students that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his viewpoint on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union rejected the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his public life on coded rhetoric and currently, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with education – absolutely herculean. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and millions of days of lost learning for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I mean this. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. It offers these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
