A comprehensive search and recovery mission is actively ongoing in the Caribbean waters for a pair of lost boats loaded with aid cargo en route from the Mexican coast to Cuba.

Maritime Search and Rescue Missions Initiated

Mexico has deployed naval teams and search planes to find the missing boats, which were carrying at least 9 crew members, as stated by a official statement.

The vessels had been expected to make landfall in Havana on either Tuesday or Wednesday, but there has been a complete lack of contact from them and no confirmation of their arrival, the navy said.

The Situation of Humanitarian Support to Cuba

The island nation has depended significantly on Mexico's over recent weeks, as the country endures repeated power outages across the country.

"The crews and captains are seasoned mariners, and each boat are fitted with suitable safety systems and emergency beacons," a representative for the convoy stated.

The nine-person crew are nationals of the United States, Cuba, France, and Poland. Mexico said it has established contact with coast guard agencies from each country along with their embassy officials.

"Our team is co-operating fully with the authorities and continue to be hopeful in the capability of the sailors to reach Havana safely," the statement continued.

Previous Humanitarian Delivery

Earlier in the week, the Cuban government widely celebrated and greeted with fanfare another boat that had delivered 14 tonnes of donated goods to the country.

That vessel, nicknamed "a modern Granma" after the boat in which Castro landed in Cuba to launch the revolution in the 1950s, carried solar panels, drugs, baby formula, bikes and foodstuffs.

Wider Geopolitical Climate

Charity groups and individuals have largely spearheaded initiatives to ship critical assistance to Cuba since January, a period which saw a oil sanctions on the Communist-run nation began.

The United Nations have since warned of ""severe" shortages of supplies, with more than 50,000 surgeries postponed in Cuba because of power shortages.

Political measures have increased over the past months, with remarks from several officials highlighting the complicated situation regarding diplomatic ties.

Responding to certain comments, a high-ranking government figure declared that "the governance model of Cuba is not up for negotiation."

Accounts suggest that early stages of discussions commenced, although their ongoing development remains unclear.

The naval forces affirmed it was pledged to using the full extent of its capabilities at its command to find the boats and ensure the safety of the sailors.

As of now, there has been no official comment on the lost ships by the government in Havana.
